J’ai profité de mes quelques jours de vacances en Juillet pour aller randonner dans les Alpes suisses avec ma famille et des amis. Petit compte rendu en trois points.

As I had a few days off, I decided to go hiking in the Alpine region of Switzerland with my family and friends. Here is the sum up of my trip.

Welcome to the Alpine region of Switzerland !

1. La Suisse c'est cher/ Switzerland is expensive

Les suisses ont un très bon niveau de vie et notre modeste budget français s’en souvient encore… A titre d’exemple : 1,20€ la carte postale, 10€ la bouteille d’eau et 20€ la pizza dans un restaurant lambda, 2.50€ la baguette. J'ai vraiment eu l'impression d'être venue avec des billets de Monopoly. Pensez à faire les courses avant de passer la frontière Suisse !

The Swiss have high incomes it's probably the reason why so many French people live in France but work in Switzerland. Our French wallets were crying though… €1.20 for a post card, €10 for a bottle of mineral water, €20 a pizza in a plain restaurant, €2.50 for a baguette...
Make sure you bring your own food on your trip to Switzerland.

2. La Suisse c'est beau/Switzerland is beautiful.

Iffig Waterfall

Les amateurs de randonnées ne peuvent qu’apprécier ce pays. On a beaucoup marché, on a beaucoup grimpé, on a beaucoup souffert mais les paysages étaient magnifiques. Nous avons choisi de loger dans la ville de Lenk et avons fait deux principales randonnées : Iffigenalp et Iffigensee. Les sentiers de randonnées sont très bien balisés et il suffit de suivre les panneaux pour ne pas se perdre.

If you love hiking, you will fall in love with Switzerland. We walked a lot, we climbed a lot, we suffered a lot but the landscapes were stunning. We stayed in the city of Lenk and we mostly did two hikes: Iffigenalp and Iffigensee.
The hiking paths are well indicated so you won't get lost.

3. La Suisse c'est variée/ Switzerland is diverse.

Lassés de la randonnée, nous avons fait un détour par Lausanne le dernier jour pensant qu’une demi-journée suffirait à visiter la ville. Mais, si vous voulez en profiter de façon convenable, prévoyez une bonne journée, voire deux. Il y a beaucoup de choses à faire : les Bords du lac Léman et les jardins, les petites rues du centre-ville, la Cathédrale, la Tour du Sauvabelin, etc. Je regrette de ne pas avoir eu le temps de tout visiter. Mais il est bon de savoir que la Suisse permet de combiner la randonnée et les escapades en ville !

Lausanne

When we had enough of hiking, we decided to go to Lausanne for our last day in Switzerland, thinking that a couple of hours would be enough to visit the city. That was a mistake. If you want to enjoy the city, take at least the entire day. There are a lot of things to see and do.You can visit borders of Lake Leman and the gardens, streets of the town center, the cathedral, Sauvabelin Tour etc. And it is good to know that Switzerland gives you both outdoor activities and city life.

Anyone who knows me can tell. I am a real fan of the British accent (ok, not all of them). Hearing people speaking is just the best thing for me. I just say to the British people that I meet how much I love their accent. They usually end up saying back "I also love yours! I'm a real fan of the French accent", then I'm upset.

Long story short, when I knew that I would be working the whole month of July in England, I was enthusiastic. Having some free time, I decided to visit London and do some sightseeing.

London is as beautiful as expensive, I grant you that. However, I found some cool things to do to enjoy the city at the fullest.

Ce n'est un secret pour personne, je suis une vraie fan de l'accent britannique (j'aime surtout l'accent du sud de l'Angleterre. Je suis allée à Birmimgham et je me demandais si c'était bel et bien de l'anglais tellement l'accent était difficile à comprendre).

Travaillant tout le mois de juillet en Angleterre, j'en ai donc profité pour visiter Londres. Voilà une liste non-exhaustive de bons plans.

1. Get an oyster card for public transport/ Faire de l'Oyster card ton ami
This card comes in handy. You pay as you go and you can reuse it any time.

Cette carte magique vous permettra de vous balader dans tout Londres à moindre frais. Elle est non nominative et est rechargeable.

2. Book your accommodation in advance or couchsurf/Réserve ton auberge en avance ou va sur couchsurfing.com
Booking your backpackers in advance is the best thing you can do. It will be cheaper and you will have more choices. Couchsurfing.com can also be an option to be hosted for free and discover the city with a local.

Plus vous anticiperez, et moins ça vous reviendra cher et plus vous aurez de choix d'auberges. Sinon, il y a couchsurfing.com pour trouver des hôtes pour vous héberger gratuitement.

3.Visit London during the week-end/ venir en semaine
I know, we are all busy during the week, but if you can, visiting London during the week will be cheaper for you. The hostel prices are not that expensive and the backpackers are not so packed.

Je sais que c'est pas forcément évident pour tout le monde, mais si vous pouvez venir en semaine faites-le. Les auberges sont bien moins chères et moins bondées.

4. Big Ben

5.Saint Paul's cathedral
One of the most opulent monuments my eyes have ever seen.

Un des plus beaux monuments qui m'ait été donné de voir.

6.Visit/visiter Greenwich

Greenwich is a lovely district with a port, a really cool museum and the royal park.

It is a bustling district especially during the week-end. This spot is also famous thanks to the prime meridian.

Greenwich est un très joli quartier se situant sur la rive droite de Londres . On y trouve un joli port, un musée de la marine assez exceptionnel. Cet endroit est surtout connu pour abriter le méridien (portant le même nom) qui marque la longitude zéro.

7. London brigde
Another beautiful and massive thing to see in the city.

Ce pont est beaucoup plus impressionnant en vrai.

9.Having a pic-nic in a park/ Pique-niquer dans un parc
London is a megapolis with various parks. They are ideal spots to have some cool-ass pic-nics.

Londres a beau être une mégalopole, on y trouve de nombreux parcs plus beaux les uns que les autres. Idéal donc pour les pique-niques entre amis.

13. V&A museum
This courtyard makes it be my favorite spot in London. It is really awesome to have a snack there and have a break during your visit of the museum.

La cour intérieure fait que cet endroit est mon paradis à Londres. Idéal pour prendre le goûter (non, je n'ai pas honte) ou faire une pause pendant la visite du musée.

14. London Eye
Most cities have this kind of attraction, but the London Eye will always be the one and only for me. Sorry!

Beaucoup de villes ont ce type d'attraction mais le London Eye reste et restera le seul et l'unique à mes yeux. Désolée.

While visiting China, I wanted to breathe "clean air" and see the blue sky. It might sound impossible but not in Jiuzhaighou.

Jiuzhaighou valley is located in the Northern part of Sichuan, in the South-west of China. You can easily access this region by plane, I strongly recommend flying with local companies to get interesting fares.

"L'air pur" me manquant un peu pendant ma visite en Chine, on m'a conseillé de visiter la vallée de Jiuzhaighou. Elle est située dans la province de Sichuan. Cette région est facilement accessible en avion, en atterrissant dans la capitale, Chengdu. Vous pouvez obtenir des prix plutôt intéressants en voyageant avec les compagnies aériennes locales.

It is a natural reserve known for its many lakes and multi-level waterfalls. I have rarely seen in my entire life such an amazing place. The landscapes were sheer beauty ! The valley (actually composed of three valleys : Rize, Zechawa, Shuzheng) was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992.

La beauté de cet endroit est plutôt incroyable. Cette réserve naturelle s’étend sur plusieurs dizaine de milliers d’hectares. Elle est réputée pour ses lacs, mais aussi ses cascades de plusieurs étages. Depuis 1992, cette vallée, composée en réalité de trois vallées, est classée au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO (je vous laisse deviner pourquoi).

The clear water makes the lakes seem like they have numerous colours from red to turquoise. There is also a verdant flora in the forest, but also in the water. (Yeah, I know!)

Ces lacs sont magiques. L’eau y est tellement transparente qu’on peut tout y voir. Certains semblent avoir de l’eau de plusieurs couleurs, d’autres sont d’un bleu turquoise fascinant. Vous y trouverez également une végétation très riche, à la fois dans la forêt alentours et dans l’eau !

The reserve can be difficult to reach. You can either take the bus from Chengdu (that is the solution I choose but the journey lasts at least 10 hours, but you will have the opportunity to finish that book you said you would read two years ago). If you have enough money, take the plane to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport and then a bus (1h) to the valley. I wish I could hide here forever but visitors must leave every evening. There are many hotels next to the reserve, so you can easily find a place to stay.

Don't expect to put your alarm clock while on vacation but I recommend being at the entrance of the park before the opening. The first day, I arrived 45 minutes before the opening and I still had to wait in line for one hour to buy a ticket and one more hour to enter the park.

To get around in the park, there are three solutions : walking, taking tour buses, or booking a private bus. I am usually lazy, but I think the best way to visit this park is to combine walking and tour buses. At each one of the bus stops, there is a very long queue, so if the place you want to go is not too far, I would recommend walking.

You would wish to be alone in this wonderful place but there are about 10 000 visitors each day. So, I repeat it again : WALK ! Even if you have to pass by crowded places to see the most beautiful spots, walking will take you on paths that not every visitor takes (because most of them only use tourist buses to visit) and you will see things that only few people are priviledged to see. You can buy a map at the entrance of the park.

At least two or three days (more if you can) are necessary to explore the whole park. On the second day, when you enter the park, take the tour bus to where you finished your tour on the previous day and then continue your tour by walking.

Le parc étant difficile d’accès, vous avez deux solutions : prendre le bus depuis Chengdu, le trajet dure 10h minimum (c'est donc la parfaite occasion pour faire vos exos de physique quantique). Pour ceux ayant un plus gros budget, prendre l’avion vers l’aéroport Jiuzhai Huanglong est possible, suivi d' un bus d’une heure. Vous pouvez loger autour du parc sans problème à condition de réserver en avance, de nombreux hôtels s’y sont installés. J'aurais adoré me planquer dans ce petit coin de paradis, mais les visiteurs doivent ressortir tous les soirs.

Portant un amour inconditionnel à mon lit, je vous conseille quand même d’être aux portes d’entrée avant l’ouverture. Pour vous donner un ordre d’idée, en arrivant 45 minutes avant l’ouverture du parc, j’ai été obligée de faire la queue une heure pour acheter mon ticket d’entrée, et j'ai attendu une heure supplémentaire pour entrer.

Pour vous déplacer dans le parc, vous pouvez le faire à pieds, avec des navettes qui s’arrêtent aux points d’intérêt de la réserve, ou avec une navette privatisée plus chère mais qui s’adapte à votre rythme et évite la queue pour les navettes classiques. Ma flémite aigüe me jouant des tours, j'ai combiné la marche à pieds avec les navettes. A chaque arrêt, il y a beaucoup de queue pour prendre la navette, on y perd du temps. Quand les trajets entre deux points de vue ne sont pas excessivement longs, je vous recommande donc de marcher.

On rêverait d’être seul dans ces lieux magiques mais le nombre de visiteurs tourne autour de 10 000 par jour, quelque soit la période de l’année. Des cartes sont en vente aux caisses ou « à la sauvette » à l’entrée du parc pour ceux qui aiment marcher. Ca vous permettra de sortir du circuit touristique classique que suivent les navettes avec leurs milliers de touristes et de profiter encore plus du parc, même si pour voir les plus beaux points de vue, il vous faudra obligatoirement passer à un moment par la foule.

Prévoyez deux/trois jours voire plus si vous voulez prendre le temps de bien explorer la totalité du parc. A partir du 2e jour, en entrant dans le parc le matin, prenez la navette jusqu’à l’endroit où vous vous êtes arrêtés la veille, puis continuez votre chemin à pied.
