Faire
un stage à l’étranger est le moyen idéal pour avoir de l’expérience
professionnelle et partir à l’étranger. J’ai effectué deux stages à l’étranger
pendant ma scolarité. Il s'agissait souvent de stages de plus de deux mois ce qui m'a permis de bien m’immerger dans le pays et d'avoir le temps de voir plus de
choses.
Aujourd’hui je vous donne
quelques astuces pour trouver un stage à l’étranger.

Doing your internship abroad is the best way to
gain working experience and travel abroad. I’ve done two internships abroad
during my studies. Those two internships lasted several months so I could
improve my professional skills and have a greater overview of the visited
country.
Today I’m sharing with you my tips and tricks
on how to find an internship abroad.
- Ayez confiance en vous/Be confident
Je parlais avec mon pote A. l’autre fois qui me disait qu’il adorerait faire son prochain stage à
l’étranger mais que d’après lui son CV était pourri. Ce n’est pas vrai, toutes
vos expériences comptent. C’est pas parce que ce n’était pas un
« véritable job » que vous ne devez pas le mettre en avant. Organiser
un événement pour votre fac compte ! Et oui, vous avez appris à travailler
en équipe, à gérer votre stress, et à amasser la foule.
I was talking with my friend A. last time who
was telling how he would love to do an internship abroad but felt like he
didn’t have enough working experience. This is not true! We all have some experience
even if it does not look like a proper work. You’ve probably organized a
school event and yes, it helped you to multitask. Don’t only
highlight what you’ve done while having a manager on your back. Even a trip
abroad can be added on a CV.

un CV mis à jour/ Update your CV
Pensez à mettre à jour votre CV
ainsi que votre lettre de motivation. Ne vous trompez pas de destinataire (ça
m’est déjà arrivé !) et montrez que vous avez bien lu l’offre proposée.
Indiquez vos dates et détaillez vos motivations.

Be sure to update your CV and
your cover letter. Make sure
you’re sending it to the right company and show that you’ve
really read the offer. Write your time frame and show how motivated you are.
- Gardez
certains détails pour l’entretien/Keep some details for the interview
Pour mon stage de fin d’études,
j’ai dû écrire un mémoire de recherche pour mon entreprise. J’ai attendu
l’entretien Skype pour leur dire que j’aurai besoin de jours off dans la
semaine pour écrire mon mémoire.
During my graduation internship, I had to
conduct a research. I waited for the skype interview to mention my thesis and
saying that I would need some days off to work on it.
- Cherchez
dès que vous avez vos dates/Look for an internship as soon as possible
Se mettre à la recherche de stages relève du
parcours du combattant. La plupart des étudiants partent en stage en même
temps. En vous y prenant tôt, vous aurez le temps de trouver plusieurs stages
et choisir celui qui vous correspond le plus. Ca vous donnera également un plan
B si votre entreprise vous lâche vous pourrez vous retourner facilement.

A lot of other students are looking for
internships on the same time than you. Some of them have better profiles than
yours. If you look for a traineeship ahead, you will be able to pick among
different offers instead of doing tasks that you don’t even like (you’ve all
been there!). It will equally allow you to have a back up plan if your company
cancel its offer.
- Faites
marcher vos contacts/Tell your friends, family and teachers
Parlez
en autour de vous. Vous avez sans doute le grand frère d’une amie qui a fait
un stage en Angleterre et qui a toujours des contacts dans la boîte. Vos
professeurs ont aussi des contacts donc n’hésitez pas à leur en parler.
Demandez-leur de relire votre CV et voir ce qui peut être amélioré.
Tell everyone you know that you are looking for
an internship abroad. I’m sure the brother of your best friend had to do an
internship abroad and still has some connections in the company. Ask your teachers
too if they can help you or just check your CV.
- Cherchez sur les
réseaux sociaux/ social media are your best friend
Il existe de nombreux groupes sur
Facebook offrant des stages à l’étranger. Egalement sur Twitter, certaines
offres circulent. N’oubliez pas de vous créer un profil Linkedin ! On y
trouve de nombreuses offres également.

There are numerous facebook groups where you
can find internship offers. Check Twitter as well. Create a Linkedin profile
you have plenty of offers on this website.
- Contactez les entreprises qui vous
intéressent
Rien ne vous empêche d’envoyer
des candidatures spontanées aux entreprises qui vous intéressent même s’il n’y a pas d’offres
sur leur site.
Do the first move! Contact the company you
would like to work with even if they don’t offer anything on their website.
- Revoyez
vos attentes à la baisse/Lower your expectations
Je sais qu’un stage chez l’Oréal
à New York fait rêver beaucoup de monde, mais je vous conseille de viser les
start-ups et les petites entreprises locales. Vous aurez plus de chance de
recevoir une réponse et des tâches intéressantes. Tous mes stages de fin
d’études se sont fait dans de petites structures. Ca m’a permis d’être proche
du personnel et d’avoir un suivi plus personnalisé.

I know, an internship at L’Oreal in New York
sounds fancy but you better off contacting start-ups or small companies. The odds
of receiving an email back are higher and tasks could be more interesting. All
my internships abroad were in small companies. My managers became my friends, I hanged out
with them and had a good follow-up.
